Ymca model united nations program

Each committee at Y-MUN is chaired by high school students, not college advisors. These student officers, led by a Secretary-General elected by the entire program, develop committee topics and conference initiatives each year guided by volunteer staff. Y-MUN relies on a group of volunteers to design, plan, and execute the program each year. These volunteer leaders are all alumni of Y-MUN, so their dedication to the program extends to ensure that each delegate has the experience that brings them back year after year.

Middle school students or "delegates" will come together in delegations and participate in the program with peers from across California. They are given the opportunity to discuss international issues, discover other cultures, develop life-enhancing skills, and make new friends. The four-month program culminates when delegates from around the state convene for the Model United Nations Summit. There, delegates represent assigned countries as ambassadors and work to solve global issues with the skills they have acquired.

Students participate in the program through their local delegations. Delegations are formed through YMCAs, schools, or other youth-affiliated programs. Youth delegates meet weekly to discuss current news, deepen their understanding of civic engagement, and prepare for events and projects. Meetings use large groups and small breakout group time based on weekly lesson format. We will be utilizing virtual platforms; Google Classroom and Zoom. If you have any issues or questions in this stage, please reach out to the Customer Service Center.

Sign up and pay now. Together with the other delegates in your country group, check out the country lists to decide who you want to represent this year. You will need your top ten choices for Step 3. Also, you must identify one member of your country group to be the "Youth Ambassador," who has no extra responsibilities other than being the delegate that conference organizers communicate with, if necessary.

Please note that only certain member states are available for certain group sizes and that some states have obligations in the Organs, indicated by an "X" in the respective column for that country. Country availability is updated in real-time on the links below; if there is a delegation written next to a member state, it has already been assigned and is no longer available.

The Youth Ambassador will complete the appropriate Google Form linked below to finish your group's registration. Your group will not be granted an assignment until all members have completed Step 1 listed above. The payment schedule for the program is as follows:. You may also pay in full at the time of registration, if preferred.
