To the right is a compass point in your direction of travel, calculated elevation and speed. Highway Lane Assist: The RoadMate will display highway signs as you approach a highway interchange, giving you a visual indication of which lane you want to be in. Maneuver List Screen: Each line of the Maneuver List screen provides details about the maneuvers in the order that they are to be made, with the next maneuver at the top.
The bottom bar of the Maneuver List screen indicates the distance and time to the next maneuver as well as the total distance computed for the route. The Maneuver List can be modified if you want to exclude one of the maneuvers to avoid traveling on one the streets listed. Orange bars indicate that the Magellan RoadMate is trying to lock onto a satellite signal and no bar shown indicates a satellite that is not being tracked.
The longer the bars, the better the signal. Setting the GPS position will allow the unit to compute which satellites are available and calculate the position quicker. Auto Night Map Display: In Auto Night Map Display mode the unit's map screen is displayed in pastel colors for daytime use and a black background for nighttime use. Rechargeable Battery: The unit has a built-in Li-Ion rechargeable battery that offers up to 3 hours of continuous use.
You can recharge the unit's built-in battery with the supplied vehicle power adapter, or an optional AC adapter. Mounting: The RoadMate comes supplied with an adjustable cradle that can be mounted to your windshield using a suction-cup mount. It can also be mounted to the dashboard of your vehicle, using the suction cup and the supplied self-adhesive disc.
Optional Traffic Link: The RoadMate is Traffic Link compatible sold separately , offering live on-screen traffic incident reports.

The Magellan RoadMate receiver has integrated traffic capabilities that can be accessed with the use of the optional Traffic Link accessory. This document is set up to be printed on 8. C USB connector. Power input from vehicle power adapter cable or AC power adapter. Installation of the Magellan RoadMate receiver is simple and easy.
The hardest part will be picking the best location. Be sure to check your local and regional laws before mounting to the windshield. Some states have laws restricting the mounting of any device on the windshield. Do not attach the adhesive disk to the windshield nor airbag covers. If you plan on using the adhesive disk, you will first need to attach it to the dashboard and allow it to cure for 24 hours before continuing.
Find a smooth, flat surface and clean it using the alcohol pad supplied. Remove the protective tape from the back of the adhesive disk. Apply the disk with the adhesive side towards the dashboard. Maintain pressure on the disk for 5 minutes to allow it to set in place.
Allow the disk 24 hours to cure before continuing. Use the alcohol pad that came with the Magellan RoadMate receiver to clean the area on the windshield that has been selected for mounting the Magellan RoadMate receiver. Let the area dry completely. Make sure that the lever at the base of the adjustable mount is in the up position. Place the base of the car cradle firmly over the area of the windshield or adhesive disk to be used. Push the lever at the base of the swivel mount all the way down until it snaps in place.
Carefully let go of the assembly, making sure that it is securely mounted. Slide the Magellan RoadMate receiver on the car cradle so that the slot on the Magellan RoadMate receiver aligns with the tab on the car cradle. Slide the Magellan RoadMate receiver all the way down until it rests on the two 'feet'.
You should notice a click when the receiver is fully mounted in the cradle. Loosen the adjustment locking knobs and position the Magellan RoadMate receiver for optimum viewing. Once set, tighten the locking knobs. Never attempt to adjust the mount while driving. Plug the end of the vehicle power adapter into a 12V DC vehicle power receptacle. Note: Some vehicles apply power to the vehicle power receptacle only when the ignition is on. If you have the standard 12V DC power cable and have purchased the optional Traffic Link cable, replace the standard cable with the new cable.
Route the cable behind the Magellan RoadMate receiver as shown. Lock the cable into the cable retainer. If the power indicator light on the vehicle power adaptor is on, power is being supplied to the Magellan RoadMate receiver. If it is not on, check the cable connection to the vehicle power receptacle. If the light is still not on, turn the vehicle's ignition on. Slide the power switch located at the top right side of the Magellan RoadMate receiver to the right.
Sit in a normal driving position and make any final. Make sure the adjusting knobs on the car cradle are firmly in place. Slide the power switch again to the left to turn the Magellan RoadMate receiver off and turn the ignition switch of the vehicle to off.
The Magellan RoadMate receiver is connected and ready for use. It is recommended that the Magellan RoadMate receiver is not left in plain view while unattended for reasons of theft. Neither the receiver nor the vehicle can be tracked using the Magellan RoadMate receiver. Welcome to ManualMachine. We have sent a verification link to to complete your registration. Log In Sign Up. Just purchased the on sale at Sears. I was seeking 4. This is it. I am very pleased with the performance for the price. The reroute time is stellar and directions are easy to understand and accurate. I bought 2 T packages which include a Magellan in each but only opened one. I immediately updated the software to version 2.
I have a Garmin Nuvi with lifetime updates but wanted a bigger screen for a second car. I had updated the Garmin recently and the beltway leg is as it should be. I am taking the unopened unit back tomorrow for a refund. Bought the Have had it for one year now. Gets the job done but I think it gets sick too often. Often has to reboot itself when I input a new adress.
More than likely the unit you buy will not have any map updates on it. Not Cool So, to get new ones you have to pay as much as the unit cost you for the map updates. Just get a gps that has updated maps on it.
I have the And her robot-voice sucks. I have a and have had no problems with it. It sounds like you either have a weak signal, a defective unit no, not that one.. Pamela Anderson, Jessica Alba, your mother?? I have owned 3 Garmins, 2 Magellans, the present one is the The previous Magellan was a Maestro It was good unless I was in Yosemite and lost signal and I had to reset it at a later date.
With I love the POI feature. As an ex charter bus driver I used this quiet a bit and like to store many multiple routes. The lane assist is good as are all the other features. I will not go into details of going through menus etc, all brands have their way of doing things. Some good and some not so good. Most every one that writes in seems to get a defective unit. You need to send it back, get a refund or put it under your back tire of your car and back over it.
I have had no problems with it, especially going into San Francisco at lot and to Las Vegas. I am a happy camper with this unit. Side comment: If you would like to see what the Australian lady looks like one of many voices get on the internet and google her in. Very interesting and nice. I have a Magellan At times it tells me it can only run for several seconds. Questions: Is there a replaceablebattery in the unit? How is it recharded? Must it be used with the car electric system?
Or can it be carried by hand and used on its own? It has an internal battery, but it sounds like it is not being adequately charged. Are you using the car charger? There are aftermarket products that can be fitted to this GPS to be charged through your home wall outlet.
Lastly, it can be used on its own. I find that it lasts less than 8 hours if left on while not connected to the car electrical system. Try switching voices in settings. Basically, place your finger on the map, pause slightly and then drag the map with your finger. Move too fast and no scroll, not enough pressure and no scroll. Next is the ability to set a "pin" on a map and choose that as the destination. This is how you navigate to a specific longitude and latitude since I see no way to enter coordinates. ETA recalculation was excellent, and we're talking about driving mountain roads with construction.
The screen kept up with my car movement at 85 mph on even the highest zoom. Did I say 85? Shame on me. Auto routing after missing a turn happens quickly, but it did get confused slightly a couple of times.
But these were not your typical in town reroutes. However it seemed to straighten itself out after driving the equivalent of an additional block. I wanted the smaller screen and am very happy with it so far. In fact I've liked it better each day as I've learned more of the functions. The biggest drawback is the inability to set a route on a computer and upload. However, building a route is pretty quick when you use the city center function, which I've done for my return trip. It lets you save these routes as an address so you can build them, save them for later use and call them up when you need to.
Will find out on my return trip how close you have to get to the city center for it to consider you as arriving. But since these are small mountain towns I may actually be driving right through their reference point. I had mentioned in an earlier post that there was a problem with the screen brightness, as well and the fact that the voice is slightly muffled when speaking the street names.
Both of these shortcomings are in comparison to the unit I contacted Magellan support about these issues a couple of times and they said they were aware of the issues and that hopefully a "fix" would be issued. As the posting by swdw mentioned, a firmware update to version 1. However, I did not notice any difference in either problem, so I emailed Magellan support. They said that the update was to correct another issue, and did not address the brightness and sound problems. They acknowledged that "you are correct that there is a significant difference between" the and , but could not tell me for sure when or if another update will be issued to correct these known problems!
