I noticed, while applying Method 1, that there is a suggestion that, if the drivers installed successfully on a prior Windows version, that the prior version should be used--not the "compatibility" mode. I went back and did as per the suggestion of installing on prior successful Windows OS. In exasperation, I tried to install a "free" version of Windows 10 that popped up from somewhere.
After downloading the OS, not even Windows 10 would install. There was an errorsomething like xxx. I will try to install Windows 10 again and see what the exact error was.
